Downloading and installing Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.08

1. Check the version of Adobe Reader you have installed on your computer.

Adobe Acrobat Reader is installed on several computers.  There is a good chance you have the software already on your machine, and if you have been updating it regularly, you will be able to view the 3d models without having to download or install any software.  Adobe Acrobat is the most popular way of distributing documents due to it's cross-platform compatibility.

Before you proceed any further, it is important to ensure that you have Adobe Reader version 7.0.8 or later installed on your system.  Adobe Reader version 7.0 and above has 3d support, but version 7.0.8 onwards has the enhanced 3d support you need to fully benefit from viewing and interacting with your 3d model. If you do not have Adobe Reader installed on your machine, please proceed directly to the downloading and installation instructions below.

In order to check your version number, open Adobe Reader and click on Help > About Adobe Reader 7.0 as shown in the image below.

A box will open up with the version number.  As you can see, I have version 7.0.8

If you version is anything other than 7.0.8, I recommend uninstalling the previous version and installing a clean fresh installation of Adobe Reader 7.0.8

2. Uninstalling any previous version of Adobe Reader

If you are not familiar with uninstalling a program from your computer, I will guide you through the process in a step-by-step manner.  It is extremely easy and you cannot go wrong.

Click on your start menu button then click Settings > Control Panel

When the Control Panel menu opens, you should see the following box with several icons like in the picture below.

Now, double click on the Add or Remove Programs icon, which is the third icon on the top row of the Control Panel.

After a few minutes, you will see a list of programs installed on your computer.  Please click on Adobe Reader and then the "Remove" button. On my computer, you can see I have Adobe Reader 7.0.8, so removing it is not recommended.  But if you have a lower version, please uninstall it by clicking the "Remove" button.

You will be asked for confirmation as shown in the picture below.  Please click on the "Yes" button.

Windows will do it's thing and Adobe Reader will be uninstalled.

3. Downloading Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0.8

If you click here, you will be taken to the Adobe Reader website.  The picture below is how it will look on your computer.  Please click on the red "download" button. This will start the download of the Adobe download manager, which is an efficient tool and will guide you through the procedure to download the Adobe Reader 7.0.8.

You will be prompted to save the file somewhere on your hard drive.  Once it is downloaded, follow the on screen prompts to download Adobe Reader 7.0.8.

I have a folder on my E: drive called "downloads" which I use to keep all my downloads.  It helps to be organized, because when you are looking for something at a later stage, you will know where to find it. The psa30se blah blah file is the download manager.  Once the manager is downloaded, the Adobe Reader download began automatically.

4. Installing Adobe Reader 7.0.8

Open the folder on your system where you have downloaded Adobe Reader 7.0.8 and double click the AdbeRdr708_enUS.exe icon.  This should begin the process of installation.

The process is clear and straightforward.  Please click on the "Next>" button as shown in the picture below.

I have included a few screenshots so you can anticipate what you see on your screen during the installation process.  I run Windows XP professional, if your operating system is different, you might not see exactly what I see, but the basic process of the installation will be the same.

You might receive a message like the one shown in the picture below.  If so, please check the Adobe Reader 7.0.8 radio button and click on "Next>".

Select a destination folder if you wish or let the installer use the default folder as shown below.

Your installation is ready to begin.  Please click the install button.

The rest of the process is fairly automatic. Once the installation is complete, click on the "Finish" button which will be available once it has installed.
